About Amy-Katerini

My Story

I come from an academic background, with four degrees (from the U.S., the U.K., and Australia) in English Literature and Creative Writing. I’ve spent the last 30 years on my own path of personal and spiritual development, becoming a Reiki Master (over seven years) in tandem with my academic studies. When it became clear that I was spending more time reading up on the works of spiritual masters and experts in personal development than I was preparing for my university courses, I decided to leave academia proper. Now working as an independent researcher and writer, I utilize my background in grief, healing, and writing to focus on bridging the academic and the spiritual in ways that can help us to navigate everyday journeys of healing.

Feedback & Reviews

Navigating Loss in Women’s Contemporary Memoir is a fascinating study of a distinctive new sub-genre of the grief memoir. Offering subtle and persuasive readings of canonical and non-canonical books, Amy-Katerini Prodromou affirms the ambiguities of recovery following loss. Her scholarly study makes an important contribution to our understanding of the culture of mourning.”

” Complementary, or even corrective, to the existing paradigms, the memoirs in Prodromou’s study expand our understanding of loss and grief in fundamental ways. They show that recovery is ambiguous at best, loss is never fully recoverable, and adaptation, rather than acceptance, marks the experience of living in the aftermath of loss..”

“What if our grief ‘work’ fails? In her book, Navigating Loss in Women’s Contemporary Memoir, Amy-Katerini Prodromou finds answers in ‘grief memoirs,’ texts that ‘enter our lives as points of light against a darkening sky.’ Her work is carefully researched and artfully composed, and it makes an important contribution to auto/biography studies.”
